Tintern Abbey has just fallen. The most beautiful poem that I have
ever read in my life is no longer such. I was introduced to it by my
father, which was part of the beauty if it, I did not know where he
got it. Now I know, when he was not quite sober it slipped out.
He got it from a girl he was dating who was majoring in English at
the UofC. He was working for the law department of the city, and she
had a summer job there. At that time he was already married to my
mother.
It is not that he did it that bothers me so much, it is his thoughts
through it. How could he justify hurting another human being so much?
It is the continuous lying about it which is so powerful. I am not
sure why the poem fell because of this, but somehow it just does.
This matters to me more than the whole divorce, the adultury, etc. I
think that the poem was worth more, is worth more.
