it's a fucking miracle. nato has launched air strikes against serb forces in
yugoslavia. after sitting on their hands
for 6 months since authorizing air strikes, action has finally been taken
against the murderous serbs.
and of course, who but the americans could use this situation as an
opportunity to climb onto some moral high ground and make general 'hurray for
us' declarations? andy rooney, of 60 minutes
delivered a heart warming editorial piece this past sunday. using references
to america's WW II policy, he did his best to fill his 6 minutes with self
congratulatory, all-hail-america-the-brave rhetoric.
rooney's point? "we have the moral authority.." as the self righteous
US of A to do something about the situation in yugoslavia. where the hell was
that moral authority 6 months ago when not offending incompetent, at-the-end-of-his-rope
russian president boris yeltsin was seen as a greater priority than stopping
genocide?
what irked me so much was his whole tone of america being able to
help all the poor, weak gypsies of the world who can't do anything for themselves.
perhaps it should have occured to him that it was nato, in fact, who got the ball
rolling, and that america joined the fray despite opposition in congress. it
seems that a large part of america only cares about america. except where foreign
markets are at stake, in which case let's hear it for the MAI.
